Which iPhone do I have?
By the PhoneTradeIn team · Published 10 October 2026
To get an accurate trade-in quote you need three things: the model, the storage and whether it is unlocked. All three are on one screen.
If the iPhone turns on
Open Settings → General → About.
- Model Name — the exact model, e.g. “iPhone 15 Pro Max”.
- Capacity — the storage, e.g. 256 GB. Use this, not the “Available” figure.
- Carrier Lock — “No SIM restrictions” means unlocked.
- Model Number — tap it to switch from the part number to the A-number (e.g. A3102), which identifies the model unambiguously.
If it will not turn on
- Check the original box, which shows the model and capacity.
- On older iPhones the A-number is printed on the back; on newer ones it can be inside the SIM tray slot.
- Sign in at account.apple.com and look under Devices — iPhones signed in to your account are listed with their model.
Easily confused models
- Pro vs Pro Max, standard vs Plus — same generation, different screen sizes and very different prices.
- iPhone SE — there are three generations (2016, 2020, 2022) that look similar; the model number tells them apart.
- iPhone XS vs XS Max vs XR — check the Model Name rather than guessing from size.
