CeX cash or voucher: how much more do you get in exchange?

By the PhoneTradeIn team · Published 10 October 2026 · Prices as of 18 October 2026

CeX quotes two prices for every device: cash, and a higher “exchange” value paid as CeX store credit. Across 1,262 CeX quotes, the voucher was worth a median 30% more than the cash price.

Is the voucher worth taking?

Only if you were going to spend that money at CeX anyway. A voucher is worth exactly what you would otherwise pay in cash for the things you buy with it — if you would not have bought them, the premium is not real money.

Cash vs the other stores

When we compare stores we always use CeX's cash price, so it is never a voucher compared against someone else's cash. On that basis CeX is still one of the most competitive UK stores — it paid the most for 46% of the iPhone and iPad configurations it shares with another store. See CeX's prices by model.

Other CeX quirks to know

  • Grades A, B and C. CeX grades handsets itself on arrival; a phone you think is grade A may be priced as B.
  • Network matters. CeX pays less for a locked iPhone than an unlocked one — by how much.
  • Prices change often. CeX adjusts buy prices frequently; check the date shown next to each price.
